WE ARE CREATIVES WORKING WITH VULNERABLE YOUNG ADULTS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH A VOICE
Belongings
In 2023 we created BELONGINGS, a verbatim play that told the stories of journeys that several young asylum seekers had taken to reach safety. Our aim was to create a greater understanding of these journeys and to share them with the community. We recorded the stories and then, with a team of actors, developed them into a short play, which we performed to 200 year 5 and 6 children in four local primary schools. Prior to each performance we ran interactive workshops that explored choices, cultures and locations.
‘The children were given a great insight into the human stories behind what being a refugee means. This really opened their eyes to what other people have to endure as they have no experiences in their lives that match this.’ (Teacher, Bosham Primary)
I thought that it was very sad to know that just because people believe in something different they have to leave their home, family and country. (Ruby, Year 5 St Joseph’s Primary School)
